Water In The Basement

Have a house that has water in the basement (3" or higher).

I have had this problem before and in that case the city came and tested the water to determine if it was city supplied water . It was and they fixed the broken main.

This house is not in a city and I would like to do the same test to determine if this is fresh water (from a broken water main).

It could be rising water table (flooding prone area), there were sewer problems, so it is not very easy to determine the source.

Does anyone know what this test is and where it can be ordered or purchased?

Thanks.

Did you ask the city what the test was called.

Thanks, it was a burst pipe. It is a remote rural area and the village works from 10:00 am to 2:00 pm on 2 days of the week due to insufficient funds to maintain more service.

There were 3 water meters in front of the house. We shut off all of them. One neighbor came, turned them all on. Went a second time, figured out which one was ours, shut it off from outside.

We could hear the water in the basement before we shut it off.
Then bought a sump pump and a long flex hose, pumped the water out. Fixed the burst pipe (it was PVC - rural area). Have to go check to see where the pump is at.
