Vinyl Seamed Wall Covering Remove Or Paint?

I have a mobile home with the vinyl wall covering on all the walls and the big gaping seams that they put little pieces of trim over at every section. I want to get rid of it. Can I just paint it all with Killz then fill the seams with a sheetrock compound prime the seams after. Then paint?

OR

Do I have to actually remove it all like wallpaper?

I appreciate any help and ideas on this. Happy holidays everyone!

Since I used to work at the Vinyl Laminating factory that produced most of those panels, I can assure you that is not wallpaper. The board itself is sheetrock or Lauan plywood and the vinyl covering is applied "wet sticking" the two together.

Since there is no expeditious way to remove the covering, your proposed method of hiding the seams is the most practical alternative to reinstalling batten strips like the factory did.

for the smaller seams, just caulk and paint. I second the knockdown or orange peel texture idea
