Very Poor Credit Score
I have a very poor credit score. my husband was hurt a few years back, we had to do a ch13. (Very long story, had to learn the hard way). I am attempting to clean up the credit. I have previously sent letters to the credit bureaus and after 2 1/2 mo. they removed 2 items. (only 12 to go). I don't want to send up any red flags when sending these letters, but how many items can you safely dispute at one time? One by one? Everything? Do you have to wait for the mail? Can I fax them? I would like to make a huge dent in this within 3 months. Any advice? Thanks for your input and expertise!
www.creditboards.com is a good source for credit info.
I've been there trying to research. I found a way to get a free copy of credit report online and have started the dispute process once again. Thanks for your reply.

How did you manage to get the free report without joining something? I've looked everywhere. The only ones I can get are the ones I pay for or join something to get it.
Here's the address for free equifax and score.

All of the CRA's have to give you a free report if you meet the FCRA guidelines.
Some are:
* Refused credit from a lender
* Looking for employment
* False information on your report
Also, some states allow you to pull 1 free report from each CRA per year. Try going to the CRA site (not one of the services advertising "Free Report" and order a report direct.
I talk to a lender who said that new legislation waiting to be signed by Pres Bush will make available 1 free report per year nationwide. We'll see.
The websites listed have good information.[ Edited by plumzany on Date 01/06/2004 ]
thanks for the help. i will do that.
My sources say as of January 1, 2004 each bureau has to give one free report per year.

Don't expect those free reports anytime soon. The CRAs can cry "implementation problems" for a few months and get away with it. Even though they've known the law was coming for a long time (but "W" only signed at the very end of last year).
