Unusual Question From NJ
Have an oppurtunity to purchase a property from an estate that is the result of a murder/suicide. My question is: As an investor and/or regular buyer, whould u buy this property under those circumstances? And if so, how much of a discount would u want, if any?
NiteFlier,
This is not uncommon. I believe that some states require that this be disclosed at sale though. You may want to do a little bit of research on this. I once heard from a REA in CA that you even had to disclose "ghosts" to potential buyers.
Personally, I wouldn't have a problem with this kind of propert, but renter or new owners might. You can be fairly sure that your renters/new owners will hear about it from the neighbors though.
On a personal note, I happen to have a friend who is a mortician/coroner and while helping another friend with a movein/remodel on their new house, my coroner friend makes the heart warming announcement that he did a "suicide removal" from the house years ealier. That's the problem with having a mortician as a friend
