Ugly Bathroom Tile

Any ideas for an older bathroom with a 4" brown tile (ceramic) on walls? I am thinking of having it etched and resprayed but the quotes are coming back more than we want to spend on this project....any ideas? We really just want a basic white....thanks in advance.

Don't laugh, I have done this before.

Buy cheap tub surround walls ($60-70) from Lowes and using Liquid Nail to glue them up. Then just caulk around bottom and seams.

How much are your quotes to re-spray?

Its a pretty small bathroom and the guy said he would have to do the tub too (which really does not need it) for around 1K......I like your idea better...haha

Fiberglass surrounds are your best option. Glue, stick, caulk, done!

    Check out armorpoxy @

I used it and it looks great. About 90 bucks. Dont scrimp on prep time tho or it will feel like sandpaper.
I have also heard of using garage floor paint. Havent tried this one tho but it makes sense since its an epoxy.

Lowes has some bathroom paneling that looks just like white tile I just did a bathroom in it and It looks great. They also make other colors of tile panel. Just cut and wall glue. Good Luck

Hey thanks for all the responses...quick question regarding the paneling..can you use it throughout the bathroom or just in the shower tub/area? Sounds like a great idea...thanks again

If it is the surround you can go over it. If it is on the walls then I suggest a wainscotting of frp panel at about $35 a sheet + mastic.
I refinish my own tubs and surrounds. My cost for a tub surround/tub is about $50 in materials. I charge $500 when I have my guys go do one.

The paneling can go anywhere I put it all through the bathroom.

I use tub surround only over the walls around the tub itself. There are other cheap panelling options at Lowes/Home Depot for the other walls. I use the "fake white 4" tile" panelling from Home Depot ($14 ea? for 4'x8') and trim it out nicely.
