Tracking Down An Owner

I have rehabbed a few properties over the last 5 years and done alright on them. I have found a vacant house, in a neighboring comunity that I would really like to get some information on. The problem is I don't have any idea how to find the owner/owners of the property. I have always just worked with brokers in the past and have only done basically as a hobby. I have checked the tax key code associated with the property in hopes of finding an alternate address to forward communication, but the address bill to is the same as the propert address. Any help is greatly appreciated.

Before hiring a private eye, do some of your own snooping. Send a letter to the address of record, and put a bold notice on the front "address service requested, do not forward." The P.O. should send it back with any forwarding info attached. If there's none, check with the assessor about back taxes, they may be past due. They should have a note on the tax records if the notices they send comes back unforwardable. More info you can use.

Talk to neighbors, suggest you want to buy the house and fix it up (act like you plan to move there), try to get any info on owner you can use (like, "Her brother lives over in Springfield, and she moved to Texas"wink. If the owner has an uncommon name, try Googling it (use quotes). Could be you'll find an obituary. I like http://www.theultimates.com/white/ for phone & address info if it is listed.
