Depends on what you want to do. Are you looking to flip properties? If so buy the book called
BUY IT, FIX IT, SELL IT, PROFIT.
There are tons of other books out there as well. I usually just read them all. I learn so much from having a broad base of knowledge. Lets me also know if I should flip a property, or hang on to it for a better profit later.

Start with the articles (tab above) and then visit your local library and college library...you will be surprised at the amount of r.e. info that is there... its free!
An excellent book I read was Buy, Rent, and Sell by Robert Irwin
The absolute best advice that I can give you is to read the following books by Robert Kiyosaki:
1. Rich Dad Poor Dad
2. Cashflow Quadrant
He has written other books and has partnered with his other advisors to write very good books also. Start there above anything!!
Good luck!
Thanks for the replies eveyone.....I have read about every article in the Article section as well as the reviews.
I am looking for a nice solid book that give information on ALL types of Real estate investing.
Thanks in advance!

"Real Estate Investments and How to make Them" by Milt Tanzer. In order to effectively "analyze" a property you absolutely must know the basics of property valuation and analysis. It does not have the fluff of "Rich Dad, Poor Dad". I do like the series and have several of his books and related authors. When it comes time to go to the college of real estate, you need a college book with real information, not a feel good book about becoming inspired to do things.

I just read the Unofficial Guide to Investing in Real Estate and it went over all aspects of investing.
I just bought a Napoleon Hill book"Think and Grow Rich".So far not specifically about REI but still an excellent read
"Owner Will Carry", by Bill Broadbent & Geo. Rosenberg, two fine CA REI's and Brokers, without trying to sell seminars, or courses, or mento programs, etc.
OWC is available from Amazon, Borders, etc.
You can check out "flipping properties" by william Bronchick, "Unlimited Riches" by Robert Shemin, "How to wake up the financial genius inside you" by Mark O. Haroldsen. There are a lot of books on this site you can check out aswell.
Hope this helps!
Has anyone gotten their hands on Real Estate Sales from Hell: What You Don't Want To Do When Buying or Selling Homes, Repos, Probates and Short-sales by Bob Boog, Robin Quinn?
"Rich Dad Poor Dad " by Robert Kiyosaki
The book is NOT a Real Estate "how to" book. It does an excellent job of changing your perspective on money. Learn how to have your money work for you. Not work for your money.
I was not impressed with "Real Estate Riches" another book in the Rich Dad series. It was way to vague and lacked detailed guidance. It was more of a real estate overview.
Start with "Rich Dad Poor Dad " for motivation.
This Book is a Must have " FAST CASH in Quick Turn Real Estate" by Ron Legrand.
Read "How to get started in real estate investing" by Robert Irwin and the other two books mentioned "buy it, fix it, sell it: profit" and "Flipping Properties" that should give you some insight.
I just checked out irwins books at local library, along with about 15 others, several of Robert allen books a couple of J.K Lasser's on by him called Real Estate Investing. Do search on their names also on investing/investments, rei, real estate, real estate investing. There were many more books must read these first then go back for more.
I think education is the answer, when I feel educated enough to not lose my. I will do my first deal.[ Edited by wpruett on Date 10/22/2003 ]
My concern in reading some of the suggested material is the age of the imformation contained within. The "buy it, fix it, sell it: profit" book for instance was written in 1998. Do the ideas, stratagies and laws still apply in 2003?
Can someone recommend reading that was written more recently?
Thanks everyone!
