Teardowns Bay Area?
I have recently gotten interested in new construction, used to live in the San Francisco Bay area, now live in Florida, and I started thinking that although this isn't generally profitable in Florida, tearing down old houses and building a new larger house might be a gold mine in San Francisco given the high property values. Anybody have any experience with this, and can anyone think of potential downfalls of doing this? Thanks.
San Francisco my favorite city in the whole United States.
Great Idea but you must remember the run up is really in land value er excuse me lands present price.
I am dying to do infill in the Bay area but the bigest problem is finding buildable lots. The building department is workable, they will allow new and far out designs. But the problem is you get in an area of $800,000 houses and there is a fire and you show up as it is cooling off and start to try to buy the lot. The quotes you get are almost as if the house is still standing.
I have a perverse desire to find a street of painted ladies and stick a super modern designed all steel house right next door. I may even duplicate the paint colors on the steel house. I will if I can find a vacant lot that I can buy.
So listen all you Real Estate Analysts. Go find me some dirt.
