Does anybody know how much per square foot to have concrete stained? I am considering it for my basement. Also do you know how often does it have to be stained?
Hi, cost will depend on which part of the country you live in, so that will vary. The actual material cost will probably be about $70 per 100 square feet total for 2 applications. Plus your sealer. The brand I use, 1 gallon covers from 150 to 250 sq.' depending on how porus your concrete is. These are contractor prices. The stain last forever, but the sealer may need recoating with wear. Inside isn't too bad. Beware that if your basement leaks, and/or the proper barrier wasn't put down before the slab poured, that water may seep through your slab and show up as discolored, whitish areas on your floor. If you do not seal it, you will have less of a problem. Also, consider the condition of your concrete in the final, overall look. I love creating designs with the acid stains and engravings. It's a beautiful look! Good luck with your project.
Howdy,

There are quite a few variations on the stone look. One option is to actually paint stones on the concrete. I've done this to make it look like bricks, wood planks, etc. If you just want a stone-look, then an acid stain in a couple of close colors will work well. The stain itself when applied is not uniform in color. Also, you can actually score the surface into 12x12 "tiles" or what ever size you like, to give you floor a ashlar slate tile look, marble, etc. Go to a search engine and do a search for acid-stain. Look at all the example pictures. Pick a look you like, order the stain, and then experiment a little (practice on concrete stepping stones from the hardware store). It's really hard to tell you how to get the look you want without seeing what you want. Please feel free to private message me with any pictures you find you like, and I'll make whatever recommendations I can.
I build concrete houses, and have naturally branched into concrete countertops, sinks, stamped concrete, acid-stain, etc. It's a great material and I've had a lot of fun experimenting. I'll be putting putting decorative concrete floors in my houses soon.
