Similar, But Different 7 Year Question

I understand that a quiet 7yr account will go away. But my question is this:

I have four different collections from back in 1997(feb, 2 in oct & nov.) which SHOULD all be off my report next year. But after reading a previous answer on another topic, I am now a little confused. I tried to fight these collections back in April of 2002 and it is stated on my report at the "Date of Status" which means I lost. Does this now mean that I have to wait 7yrs from 2002 before they are off my credit report?
If so then I will have to hire a hitman for my exwife. LOL
Please help if you can, thanks.

If you fought them with the reporting agency (Equifax/Experian/TransUnion), they shouldn't be extended.

If you wrangled with the collectors ... I'm not so sure. But generally the date of last activity is the date they last got any payment ...
