Hospital Liens?

Need help with a question re hospital liens. The home is in pre-foreclosure and I am currently working on a forebearance agreement with lender. However, the seller also has some medical bills that are past due and now has a lien on the house. I want to contact the hospital and negotiate a large discount to the lien (either they get some money or no money as owner is willing to go into foreclosure if no choice). The lien is at $10K and I'm thinking of just paying $2K. Any suggestions/recommendations/ideas on how to accomplish this and make sure they don't issue a deficiency judgment later?

Please please advise. Thanks for the help in advance.

Well I have had several conversations with people about discounting hospital liens. I have been told to offer to buy the note for a discount instead of trying to pay them less for a payoff. I have also heard that working out a payment plan is easy as well. If they wont take less offer them $84 a month for 10 years. No interest.
