I have found that many banks will list their Real Estate Owned (REO) properties on their web site. That's a good place to start. Some will use a property management company to handle the maintenance and resale of their REO's. You can find some of these property management companies by using an internet search engine to search for "REO" or "[bank name] property management". Once you find their web site, you will be able to see properties currently assigned to a real estate broker and properties pending assignment.

Banks are typically unwilling to deal directly with individuals or investors wanting to buy their REO properties. So you'll probably have to contact the real estate broker if you're interested in buying a property. Or better yet, find the deals before they go to sheriff's auction and the bank gets them back. You'll probably find less competition at that stage of the game.

    Good luck!
P.S. If you want a list of the REO web sites I'm familiar with, you can email me.

    Jamie
