Sewer Lines On Residential Lot
I bought a residential lot at a tax sale. A neighbor called and said there are sewer lines running through the lot. If that is true, can you move them or get the city to move them. Thanks in advance for your help. Lisa
Just a little more info. I know to go to the appraisal district to see if in fact this is true and where they are. I just would like to have some knowledge when trying to get something done. thanks.
Lisa,
Either the county or the town should have maps of where the existing sewer lines are. If the sewer line runs through the lot, there should be a easement granted to the city and recorded against the property and some reference to the easement in the deed. Did you have a title company pull title on this property?
alexcturner,
Glad to meet you.
Call the 1-800 before you dig number.
The utitlity companys and the city will come out and flag the areas where any utiltites or sewer lines are. This information may come into play depending on what you are doing with the property.
Let your fingers do the "walking" or in your case "locating".

Thanks for the replies. I called a title company and told them I wanted a title search. She asked me why since I already owned it and I told her because I had a sheriff's deed. She proceeded to do alot of searching on the computer while I was on the phone. She then told me she would mail me what she found and that it was up to me if I wanted to do a title search, but that it looked clean to her. She did mail me what she told me over the phone. Then yesterday (while in St Pete's Beach) a neighbor to the lot called and asked me if I knew about the sewer lines. So I am trying to get a little education before I go to the Appraisal District on Monday. Thanks!
If there is a sewer line traversing the lot, it was placed there by a quasi-governmental entity. As I said before, the city should have detailed plans and a map of the sewer line and should be able to tell you when it was installed. It's unlikely that they will allow you to remove the line.
