Contact a local septic designer and ask them. Septics are based on how much room you have for a drainfield and how good the soil is. If the soil is sandy and deep then you could get a 3 bedroom gravity system for around 4k. If the soils are shallow then you could be looking at a alternative system, and that could be 18k or more. Here I can call a guy who for 150 dollars will take out his mini excavator and dig holes and tell me what kind of a system it will probably be. You need to get this done BEFORE you purchase the property. there are pieces of land out there that the soils are so bad they wont even be able to have a septic system. although on 4 acres I doubt you will have a problem.
be careful who you talk with. I had a very popular septic designer tell me my land would be a aerobic system (about13k). I didnt believe him so I had another company go dig holes and they came back with a gravity sytem (about 5k).

Thanks for the reply. I had someone give me a quick quote and they said it would be anywhere from 12,000 to 15,000. That seems like a lot.
