Security Systems

I am thinking of installing security systems in two of my rentals (one was just broken into the other day by kids). Any recommendations on a good company/good approach? Maybe I can buy the systems and make a little on the monthly payment? What have you guys been doing?

I have been using Brinks Home Security for a few years now. I haven't had any trouble with them and they're fairly reasonable. We pay about $33 a month for our system.

It certainly is no substitute for a real security system, but sometimes I get a really big dog dish, label it something that sounds big like "Thor" and put it near the back door. Gives them something to think about before they break in.

We would tend to feel that a system which makes a lot of noise in the neighborhood would be a starting point. Wireless installation, numerous ringing bells, yard signs, and stickers could be a cheaper solution instead of the monthly overhead of a monitoring company. It is our feeling that with the trend of cellular telephones, land lines (used for alarms) will be too costly to maintain.
