Replacing Wood Siding With Brick

I recently found a good rehab prospect. It is in a very nice area, but the biggest thing it needs is some curb appeal.

Every other house in the neighborhood is a very nice brick ranch. Well cared for. Beautiful lawns and the small details make every house look very nice. This house WAS a very nice brick ranch, until the current owners got ahold of it and added a garage, presumably to park one of their 45 broken down cars in. This garage is attached and has wood siding. It looks terrible, especially with the brick house. They accented this wonderful new addition with aqua shutters and garage door. The house is by all accounts the ugly house on the street.

My question to you is this. Has anyone ever sucessfully replaced wood siding with brick? Is this a costly endevour? I know i will be hard pressed to find the same brick, and most likely will have to settle for something close in color, but is this a feasible thing to attempt?

This house should be selling in the low 200s, and I can get it for about 160.

Thanks for your help. I look forward to hearing your responses.

If this is all that needs done to this property to bring that kind of return, I say go for the brick.

We have installed face brick for the appearance.

First, you have to dig around the periphery of the garage... and pour about a 12" by 12" concrete footer with rebar to support the weight.

Then, with felt paper or other vapor barrier on the existing siding, run the face brick. Since this is not a structural change... you may be able to get by without a permit.
