Removing Asbestos Siding Vs Siding Over It

I have an old farm house with asbestos siding and Im wondering what the costs of getting it removed(to finish original wood) would be vs just putting up vinyl over it?

I know this is a pretty specific question but would just like an idea.

thanks

Nick

If possible I would leave it up. We have several houses from the 40s & 50s with asbestos siding, some now under vinyl. Removing the siding involves an certified asbestos removal company and you have to pay a hazardous material disposal fee.
You may want to consider just painting it. There is no danger unles it is disturbed. Asbestos siding is pretty tough and there are concrete fiber siding products that will match it pretty well if you need replacement shingles.

this is a great question, I have a rehab comming up and this one of my concerns. My unlce says it would be easier and cheaper to just paint it.. But I would be getting some estimates any how..

just also had the same problem recently and did a search on the internet and the best answer seemed to be cover it with insulation board and then vinyl siding which is what my siding guy said originally.
