REI Guru's
Ok, upon researching REI on the net I stumbled upon John T. Reed's website basically slamming every REI Guru out there. But, at the same time he self promotes his stuff. In any case, he is not helping in my confusion....Doh
Any thoughts or info?
The best way to get into this game and to understand it is not to rely on just one packet of information but rather read, learn, and understand multiple schemes. These get rich quick schemes are great but the only way you are really going to become successful is to learn as much as you can and then taking that first step and just doing it. Get familiar with Real Esate, get familiar with the Mortgage game, understand appraisals, title, and etc... My point is, dont stop learning after knowing just one guys package, learn other concepts and ideas.
I totally agree that experience is the best teacher. Problemo is, like everyone else I do not want to lose my shirt on real estate. And after reading Mr. Reed's website it makes it seem that if you take any advice, technique or whatever from any of the big names you will end up in jail or sumptin. Yea, I slightly exaggerate, but that is just my take.

I would suggest one explore the different methods and then choose one when starting out. Focus on one method and then begin to dip into other methods. You will get overloaded and have brain fart if you try to learn it all. Stay focused and take small step....when you get comfortable, begin taking larger steps.
As to the guy who slams everyone else and uplifts his stuff...his site did exactly when it was designed to do. get you to doubt, question, put fear into you, and then make you believe his stuff, is the best stuff. Just make sure whatever course you buy, if you buy one, the teacher is creditable....Micheal Jordan and Tiger Woods didn't become good at what they do by talking bad about others and preaching they are the best. They just went out and preformed and let their actions do the talking.

Here is my take on John T. Reed.
He is doing a great job of marketing his web site and products, let's see why.
This is called negative marketing, when you see the Tabloids at the Supermarket with headlines like "Ben Cheats on ..." you figure you are going to get the straight skinny and all the dirty details, even though you know deep down this headling is used to sell tabloids or in John T's case have someone go to their web site.
John T. takes this approach, what even strenghtens his site are all the people who could not make it in this great industry and use his site to say, "See this is why I could not make it".
He understands the psychology of a downtrodden investor and plays on this and gives them an out.
The John T's of this industry have their place just as do the course writers who can give you testimonial after testimonial of those who used their methods and are out making money.
Who is right and who is wrong, ask a person who did not make it and ask a person who did, somewhere in the middle lies the truth.

Is Mr. Reed a "big name"? Does he want to be, or does he market himself as one?
I read somewhere that you shouldn't believe everything you read...
Knowledge is key, that's for sure, but you have to apply that knowledge to unlock the door, and only when you unlock that door will you finally understand. From understanding comes success.
