Painting

What is the best and safest color to go with? My thoughts were to go with a white semi-gloss on all the walls and a flat on the trim. Should I use different colors or shades in different rooms or am I safe to stick with one color? Thank you.

Go with light colors - I often go with country white or egg shell. Always go with semi-gloss, easy to clean.

To answer you last question - use the same color throughout. In fact, use the same color for all your properties, thay way you can use your spare paint to touch-up all props.[ Edited by hoober on Date 03/12/2005 ]

my places look like doctors offices when i am done. all white everywhere. its the best color because they can paint over it easily with any color when they buy the house. if you are marketing to the devil go with black throughout

Semi-gloss to gloss on trim is a no-brainer. Trim takes the most abuse - think vacuum cleaners!

As stated semi-gloss on walls show off defects more than flat, however semi-gloss wears much better, just looking at flat paint can make marks appear!

Rentals and rehabs should probably be painted differently.

This is for resale; I prefer semi-gloss on the wall (something washable), so maybe a gloss on the trim?

Here is another secret for you - get out from behind the computer and talk to real breathing people. Go to a quality paint store and ask somebody there who is older than 17 about proper painting. Pull a painters card off the bulletin board there and call him and ask. Where do you find the most useful information? From people who are doing everyday what you are doing 4 times a year. grin

paint the house whatever you want. I agree this is pretty funny we are dealing with thousands of dollars and people are worried about what color they paint the inside of their house. Use white paint and sell the house. we are not saving the manatees here

Please do not paint the walls or ceilings with semigloss. Think touch up. You have SAND semigloss before you paint it or it will peel.

Benjamin Moore paints (and probably others) have a new product called "Matte" finish. It goes on like a flat (meaning you can touch it up or paint over it), but is washable like a semigloss.
