Kitchen Cabinets Are Ugly But Solid...

We are looking at a rehab, we are newish to the game, and trying to get the most bang for the buck, the cabinets are the original 1973 cabinets, and are solid in construction, but are very dark stained wood color. They do not look that dated, but are very dark, we are trying to lighten up everything.

Is painting the cabinets an option or does that look too crappy?

Are replacing the cabinets worth the cost, in a lower income area? Not ghetto, just lower.

    Hi All ,

I just closed on a reo property, and the cabinets are also solid, but has been painted.

I am pondering if we should change the cabinets or have them repainted. If we repaint them, I am not sure what color would be in style as painted cabinets orther than white. I had some cabinets painted white a couple years ago, and the painter did a spray method on them, and they look factory finish.

Do you think white cabinets are still in with new hardware ?.

    Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Lower moderate income painting works well.

White is still in. Painting the walls antique white and the trim and cabinets bright white looks great with new hardware.

Find a qualified painter who will clean the cabinets initially and sand between oil based coats of primer / paint.

A new paint job and new hardware is ~ $850.

    New cabinets installed $3850.

Hope this helps.[ Edited by happyhome on Date 05/27/2006 ]
