Fuse Box Replacement Question?

What is a ballpark estimate to replace a fuse box with a 200Amp breaker in a house built in 1961?

Also does anyone have an estimate to put in CHAC in a house with window units and a floor furnace, house is appr, 1200 sq. ft.?

Thanks!

Thanks, has anyone ever had to rewire a house completely? From the old cloth wiring up to copper? A ballpark on that?

My electrician in Atlanta just went up to $4.00 a square foot.

Have you seen the prices on WIRE lately?!?!? WOW!!!!!!!!!

I just did it for about 3k but the price of wire was cheaper and had removed all the laten plaster so he had easy access. They guys claimed it was the easiest job they had ever had on a remodel cause the walls were gone. I left the lats up but they just ripped off the ones that were in their way. It was a one story and just left all the old wire in the walls disconnected and cut back a ways from any new electrical so they could not pick up any charge from their. The price of wire has gone up substantially since then and has sense actually turned into a theft item from new homes. Sad but true.

$7000 for a 2 story 1500 sq foot house - upped service from 30 (yes I typed that correctly) to 200 amps - it also included new receptacles, light switches and ceiling fans - also fluorescent lighting added to the basement & a ceiling light/fan added to the screened porch

    suekostalas,

Is that price to replace all of the wiring along with everything else? To new copper wiring throughout?

    Thanks

Shop around to find a decent price.

I was quoted $5K to upgrade a duplex to 200Amp for each side )from fuses). Found an electrician for only $3500

$1500 will do it if all your looking at is a service upgrade. Mast, box, and breakers.

I have done a number of these and the parts are $500-$700 generally speaking.

I usually run the mast and main breaker and hire an electrician (or a skilled handyman) to do the rest.

I can get it all done without touching it myself for 2-2.5K with licensed professionals.

This is not rewiring the whole house, just the box etc.
