What kind of siding are you interested in installing - vinyl, wood, masonite???? Are you trying to match the old, or is this new? What part of the country is the property located (the membrane against the house could have different requirements depending on the location)?

    Thanks Finn-

    Vinyl, southeast, new installation.

Thanks Rick, great suggestion on Lowes. I will do just that!

I think that Lowes may even have online videos showing you how to do it. If not for a few bucks you can buy the Home Depot book and it will walk you through the process.

over time the grout lines will "push thru" the linoleum and make it look bad.

There prob is some substrate that can be used.

If this were my rehab, I would float mortor over the whole floor filling in all the grout lines to even them with the tile surface, and then lay the linoleum.

Other then aesthetics, why put an inferior product (vinyl / lin.) over a superior product (tile). Its sound like your are 1) looking at $$ and 2) aesthetics.

I recently did a job for a client who wanted to update her bathroom at a reasonable price...........instead of pulling up the outdated mosaic tile, we just tiled over the existing tile. If this is a bathroom then your probably looking at less then $100 in material (less then 1.50 a sq. ft.).
