Best Souce Of Windows? Best Value?
How do you determine when to replace the old wooden double-hung windows with the new vinyl windows?
What brand or windows have you found to be the best value? The best combination of quality, style and price?
Do you just buy what is at you local Home Depot or Lowes or is there a window manufacturer that you buy direct from?
Your question is alittle to broad to answer. It really depends on the value of the home for the windows you are going to use. I personally use the cheapest window I can get away with on existing structures, unless the home is about $300k and up. Again it really depends on each situation. I pay about $130 installed for a fairly cheap vinyl window. On rentals, unless the windows are falling out or im paying for the heat , I never replace them. Hope that helped you out.
I forgot to mention that I get my windows from a locl window manufacturer. They are ultra cheap and can have an entire house 15+ windows in less than 7 days.

It's a vinyl replacement window discussion board. I think you'll have better luck.

Haha!
A vinyl window discussion board? It just goes to show people will start a discussion about anything. Who needs religion or politics!!
I like Gogibrano's reply. If they don't need it, then don't replace them...but here, inspectors can (and do), make you fix them or repaint them, depending on condition. And in either case, I'd replace them, because the labor in stripping and repainting, or in fixing is nearly the same as what a window costs, which can be put in in less than five minutes. And it adds an incredible amount of value for resale (if that's what you're doing). Obviously YMMV (putting vinyl windows in a Frank Lloyd Wright house might make you the enemy of the state....), but you get my drift.
I use Carefree, Great Lakes, or Pacesetter; all are made in factories close by (or a subsidiary factory).
I use window world. I dont think they are in every state but they do have many locations on their website. Its hard to beat their prices especially if you want them installed. They sell and install any size window (to a point) for $200 each. The only downfall is that it takes about 4-6 weeks to get them. They make every window custom for you.
