Anyone Got A Good Contractor In Los Angeles?
Hey, guys - So here I am, looking at a counter-offer on the fixer house I'm trying to buy. It's a wonderful situation, seeing as how the clock starts ticking the moment I sign it, and I'm in Atlanta, GA through the 28th.
But at least I've got this house tied up with an offer. <IMG SRC="images/forum/smilies/icon_cool.gif">
That being said, the rental unit downstairs will need a bit of work before it's livable. I plan on doing a lot of it myself, but there are a couple of load-bearing walls that I'll probably want to move, or remove altogether (leaving support columns, etc).
I need to get someone out there to look at it around the start of next week, so I can figure out if what I want is doable before my inspection contingency runs out--anyone got a good person they use for this sort of major work? (I'd prefer to get a referral from someone, rather than finding Guy-In-Yellow-Pages who'll charge me more than the cost of the house to do something with it).
(Not to mention the fact that my soul is already mortgaged to the hilt, and I don't think I can get any more on it, even for something as valuable as home improvements).
I plan to do most of the work myself, but want to avoid bringing my new house down on my head, if at all possible. I was told that the process of buying your first fixer house was heralded by dreams of the whole thing collapsing in on you, and, true to form, I'm having 'em. I'm hoping one of you can help make sure that certain dreams of mine DON'T become a reality...and others do.
With much thanks, and in anticipation of the day when I've learned enough to actually post ADVICE on this forum...
