Any Type Of License(s) Needed For Rehabbing?

I plan on rehabbing houses, and then renting or selling them. Do I need a real estate, business, or other license for this?

Thanks.

Not where I am from. All you need to have is the proper permits from the municipality that you are doing the work in.

    Good Luck!

Any specifics on the types/details of proper permits?

    What is a municipality?

    Thanks.

In NC, you may do "small" repairs on a property as long as you pull the appropriate permits, have necessary inspections, and apply appropriate building code.
HOWEVER, if you go over the set amount (and I beleive it is $60,000 in NC...but double check with your state) you will need to get a general contracting license. The exception to this is if it is you own property AND you plan to live in it 1 year.

    Good Luck!

If you rehab a structure which is not owned by you (probably not the case for what you're describing), then in Connecticut you need a Home Improvement Contractors license which is simply filling out a form and sending it along with a fee $$

Here, ya' just gotta permit stuff when you do it. I think there's a push to make GC's get a license, but it's not required just yet. You can go to Cathy Cox's, the Secretary of State's website to find out about licensure. Here's the URL: http://www.sos.state.ga.us/default1024.asp

Thanx Jam for the info........especially since you two are from the same state.

You may want to also check with local city / county officials.........some town require a "business license".........which is nothing more then a form of taxation.....however just to keep everything on the up and up........I would call see if they have instituted such an animal...........if they ask what it is then hang up immediately so as not to give them any ideas.
