Advice On Dealing With Building Inspectors

My latest project has been a gut rehab of a house and the inspectors have just been real ball busters the whole time. I bought at FC auction and the house was already gutted. Previous guy did shoddy work with no permits and it seems they are taking out their anger on me.

Anyway, exactly what rights do I have anyway if I think they are trying to nitpick me to death.

They are holding up my final approval for things like no transitions between hardwood and carpet (a design choice), 2 outlets that are a little loose behind the wall plate, 2 screws instead of 3 in ONE joint of entirely new ductwork.

Also, can they require me to fix things that fall outside my permitted work? i.e I did not replace windows but they found one window is out of plumb and they want it replaced.

What are my rights?

Thanks

Eric

Sounds to me like someone needs to meet your old friend, "Ben Franklin."

In a case like yours I just try to do my best to willingly satisfy them and hope it will get me on their good side next time.

I use it in my rentals and have never had a problem. It works good. I know it can be used in kitchens but I never have.
