Real Estate Or Estate Planning?
When looking for an attorney, should I look for one who specializes in estate planning or general real estate?
Thanks

It depends on your immediate needs. If you are looking for asset protection, use a certified financial planner to develop your plan, and an attorney to draw up the forms that dictate how your heirs are to handle the estate when you are gone. If you are trying to be a creative real estate investor, then get an attorney that specializes in real estate law to develop or review your contracts and forms. If you are in a state that uses attorneys to handle real estate transactions, your real estate attorney can handle that also.
Or both?
I would not be comfortable having a CFP/CPA doing my estate planning.
For the real estate planing (how and where assests held, who gets them, when, tax issues, etc.) I uses an atty.
Similarly for REI issues (can I do this, I need a resolution for that, I need the operating agreement to do this)
CPA is who I'd used the crank the tax return and give advice come Oct to minimize my taxes..
I haven't seen the issue of estate planning discussed much here.
Too young to wory about old age. I wanna make some dough without getting my pants sued off. My query was rooted in the investment side of estate planning. I read an article by Mr Locke and he said the first thing he did before starting his career was to obtain the best attorney in his state. Not sure if I wanna go through the hassle and expense of finding the best. I would be happy to find a good attorney who thoroughly understands the creative investment strategy. That is why I asked if I need a real estate or estate planning attorney. Which one will be the most knowledgable?
Thanks again!
Estate planning doesn't have to do w/ age.
He has to do with wealth preservation and who gets your money, Uncle Sam, or the people you want to get it.
Expert legal advide is very difficult to find. I have been referred to "experts"that I would let draft my dogs estate plan.
There also is the asset protection aspect of estate planing. I decided to pur the asset protection together w/ the wealth preservation and do that w/ an estate planning atty.
You need a Real Estate Attorney then.
