Real Estate Etiquette

Is it considered proper to ask the seller or the seller's agent the name of the person or entity that has signed a contract to buy the property.

Just wanted to know whether that was considered rude or not.

Thanks

There are no absolutes in this business.

Ask away. See if they will tell you.

Rude? One (wo)/mans 'rude' is another (wo)/mans normal.

You can ask, but there is no reason for them to tell you that information, and I would be surprised if they would.

I agree, you can always ask...more than likely the listing agent is going to want to know why you care...its under contract...about the only thing they can think of is that your going to mess up their deal. In my area, the MLS doesn't list the buyer. So i'm guessing most won't tell.

As a seller, I think you should have a right to know who the buyer is before making the decision to accept their offer or not. Especially if the offer is contigent upon obtaining financing.
