Hawaii Or San Diego?

Hi,

How are you all doing? Wonderful Group.

I want to buy a second, second home and was wondering if Hawaii or San Diego is better?

I want sunset view over the ocean and be close to the beach?

Any thoughts? cool smile[ Edited by JohnLocke on Date 03/28/2005 ]

This all depends on your intentions. Do you want cash-flow at all or just a place to go to? I used to live in San Deigo and if you are thinking of purchasing there I would wait. A lot of investors there see the market as having reached the top and you might get a better value in the future as NODs increase. Hawaii however I have heard is an appreciating market where some of these same San Diego investors have looked. San Diego is beautiful but I would go with Hawaii.

Having lived in both places - I would go with hawaii. Big military population in Hawaii to guarentee rents.

    Thanks.

I currently own a nice condo (rental unit) in Kona, HI.

I visted San Deigo (Pacific Beach) and fell in love with the beach and the Sunsets.

So for now it would be a rental and later ( 3 -5 ) when I retire I want to use is a winter home every other year.

Hawaii 1/2 the time in Winter, and San Diego 1/2 the time the next winter?

For summer I own a home in NC at OBX on an island.

    I just LOVE the Beach!

Does anyone know of a good place to buy on the Beach in San Diego, or should I wait a year or two?

SD prices are out of control right now. I would wait, but I guess that depends on how much money you have to invest.

I live in Ramona which is in San Diego County and about 30-45 minutes away from the coastal beachfront. My primary residence in Ramona is for two reasons:

    1. Less traffic as San Diego is not quite L.A. yet, but traffic is becoming a problem in San Diego.

    2. As all the out of staters stated, the home prices in San Diego are through the roof. In fact, as of now, the prices are still very high and the flattening out has not yet started.

Because of the market in San Diego, I have taken my investing efforts to outlying areas and the High Desert of California. No doubt this is a beautiful area. I agree with the others. Wait a while.

Just go ahead and buy in hawaii and san diego.
Both are good markets. Good returns on investments.
