Quick Claim Deeds
I am located in Georgia. Me and my domestic seperated 6 months ago. We were owners of a property. Upon seperation, my partner wanted to keep the house. The mortgage was in both our names. After meeting with the finance company and the attorney, we signed the papers to transfer ownership of the property and the mortgage to my partner. After six months, I find out that I only did a quick claim deed and that my name is still on the mortgage. The attorney assured me at the signing that I was releived of any liability. Now I am trying to buy a home of my own and this mortgage is increasing my debt even though I do not contribute to the payment. I have no doubt my former partner will keep the mortage current, but this debt is setting out there in my name. What can I do?
Its actually called a QUIT CLAIM not "Quick"
Its a deed that operates to release "Quit" any interest in a property.

Excuse me for the spelling error! Do you have a suggestion as to what I can do?
