Question On Removing A Pool

What is the proper method for removing or filling an in ground pool?

A rehabber is doing work at a neighbor's house and filled it with the broken cement from the driveway and patio.

Thanks
Peter

Sounds Good. I'd fill it with whatever crap I had to get rid of and then bury it with at least a foot of clean dirt. The more the better so people don't dig in to the mess.

Depends on the soil conditions and what are your plans as to the utilization of the ground that will now cover the pool.

My suggestion is I check to see if it is intact. I remove all plumbing connections so no future ground problems caused by a broken pipe. I then fill it with pea gravel to a depth of about 3 inches and then I utilize sand and at the end just plain old dirt. I wet it at various levels so it will go down and impact a bit and then, I plant or turf it depending on the nature of the inhabitants of the house.

Now do not laugh, I turned one into a guest house! I know that is pretty sick, but if you had met the inhabitants you would understand. Gothics in training.
They love it. The little trap door the whole thing. Of course I reside in LaLa Land and that is my excuse.

    Wait a minute Lucius!

Steel shipping containers into floatable houses? Swimming pools into guest houses? What's next? You've got to have the most creative mind on the site!

The hole should be filled in and packed down with a compactor at various levels.

Just simply putting in junk, be it concrete and other construction debris is not advisable.

Often if not done properly, the area will settle causing grading issues as well as issue of now being able to build upon, ie garage, storage etc.

You should call your local city / county zoning department for more information.
