Question, Oak Cliff/Dallas Fixer-uppers
I bought a duplex in North Oak Cliff. I am completely rehabbing it. we are going to live in half and rent the other half. It is a hot area - many creative professionals are moving in and I want to make sure that I property equip the rental to appeal to the "up and coming set". I dont want to over spend and have a renter destroy a pricey countertop (as an example) and I do not want to under spend and have the place look cheap.
Question is - what are some good brands (for kitchen and bath remodeling) that look great, but do not cost a leg and that will really last a good long while?
Thanks a bunch!

Brands will differ across the nation.
For kitchen cabinets Home depot has mills pride which looks fairly decent and there is a brand called panda kitchens that are very nice cabinets.
Consider a tile countertop. Fairly cheap to do and easy to get rid of when you need to change it out.
I think you should take some time and cruise Home Depot and Lowes and such places and see what they have. That will give you a good starting point for what you want to do.
Check out Republic Industries they have an outlect in Dallas. They are not high end but they are a great value.
Good idea jimandlacy. I will keep that in mind.
Just a followup on the Mold and Mildew product called Shockwave. We found a similar product in Home Depot called Rid-X (I think).
Anyway, it is a concentrate that you combine with Clorox Bleach and water.
You spray the affected area down with it, and within a couple seconds the mold and mildew stains are gone. It is really that good. The directions say that it is not made for indoor use, and I believe them as it produces a pretty strong odor - mostly the bleach smell.
Aroudn here Rid-X is the bacteria treatment that goes in the septic system.
