Pros V. Cons Of Being A "Real Estate Professional"

I would love to hear from some of you out there:

1) What it really takes to be considered a Real Estate Professional. Does 750 hours a year alone do it? Getting a license of some sort? Forming a property mgt. company?

2) For those of us with other, full time jobs, what are the pros and cons of putting "Real estate professional" on our tax returns. Is it worth it?
