Property Closing Checklist
I was recently cleaning out my desk and found
a checklist I use that would benefit others.
I call it my "Property Closing Checklist".
1. Fire Insurance cancelled
2. Utilities Cancelled
3. Lock box removed
4. Newspaper ad's cancelled
5. P.O. Box on all closing statements
6. Tax assessors office contacted and
given new forwarding address or you put
in a change of address at post office.
7. Closing statement reconciled.
8. File complete: Purchase and sales closing
statements, loan documents, transfer of
disclosure, receipts, utility bills, etc.
I will let the Guru's on this site comment why the above is so important and add if they would like.

I would just add:
1. Get at least 2 copies of the HUD-1 at settlement, put 1 in the property file and another perhaps in tax file.
2. If you had a loan on the property, then make sure file contains recorded satisfaction piece.[ Edited by NancyChadwick on Date 02/15/2004 ]
