Probate
There is a vacant house across the street. I know the people on title are both decesed. So how do I buy it? I can't find any heirs (but I don't know where to look either). Any body have any luck finding a contact when the owners are dead? What other options do I have? Thanks,
Josh

Dear jpchapboy
Try looking at the property tax rolls for your town or city. This will tell you who the owner is ( relative, trust whatever) This will give you an inital contact to either mail a letter or post card expressing your interest to buy the property. If you cant find it there, You can also go to the register of deeds for your county and look them up by address. This should also tell you who has the deed to the property.
Good luck

I've done that. The records on the house say the owner is a person who is decesed and the contact address is the address of the vacaant house. Kind of a dead end. I got the back taxes amount (about $1500) and I could pay that but that wouldn't give me any ownership rights. I could break in and pretend I own the place untill such time that someone comes and proves ownership. But that seems kind of dishonest.

put a note at the front and back doors asking someone to contact you. I'm assuming someone takes care of the place (mowing grass, shoveling snow, just looking around on occasion). If you send a letter inquiring about purchasing the property they might ignore it , especially if they've gotten several of these. If you let a note that asks them to contact you, the neighbor in the house w/green shutters on the corner, they might contact you thinking you want something else and you can at least get an idea planted and a dialogue started.
