Please Help. I Don't Get It!

My credit report has no deragatories. I have been paying bills on time for almost 2 years (never been late). I have no credit cards. My income is very good at over $40,000 a year. This year, I bought a brand new car in March, just bought my first income property and refinanced my debt to consolidate and lower my ratio. My dti is less than 35%. AND NOONE WANTS TO GIVE ME AN UNSECURED CREDIT CARD! Can anyone explain to me why? Or better yet let me know where I can get one. Thanks in advance. confused

One reason is because your debt, amount owed, has increased rapidly and you haven't yet established a payment history showing you can handle the increase in debt even though your dti was actually lowered.

Quote:I have no credit cards.Time to get some. With no cards, issuers have no way of knowing whether your personal credit orchestra has a talented player sitting in that seat or a real dud.

For the record, Citgo (fuel) and Target have a tendency to suddenly turn their good accounts into affinity/branded Visa cards. It could be a good way to back-door into an unsecured credit card.

But in any case start climbing the plastic ladder ... gas cards to specialty retailer cards to department store cards ... and at that point offers for MC/Visa/Amex/Disc should pour in. You'll have to turn the sprinklers on to keep 'em away from your door!

And *use* the credit cards once you get them. Also make sure you pay them off completely when the bill comes in. You want a track record of being able to meet your financial obligations.

Start off by getting a Debit Card or a Credit Card secured by a checking account.

Thank you for all of your wonderful advice. Will start with a debit card and a gas card. One positive of being rejected is I'll be able to check my credit again. It's been almost a year anyway.
