Painting Brick?

Looking to take a property subject to, house is simply ugly. House is all brick with small white shutters. Will probably replace shutters and or paint them as well. Can you paint brick? If so, does it require a special type of paint? Thanks in advance.[ Edited by suntzu18 on Date 04/12/2004 ]

Yes you can. However, do you have to?

Saw a brick house down my road just get painted. Went from a blah red brick to a lively white-ish collor. Looks great. Took them 2 or 3 coats though.

I would not paint brick. This makes a fairly maintance free surface into a much more labor intensive surface. Painting can be tough due to uneven surface. Try painting windows and trim to spruce up the place.

Pressure cleaning the brick can make a tremendous difference.

Ok...probably will not paint the brick. Will paint the trim and the shutters and give landscaping overall facelift. New mailbox and frontdoor will hopefully do the trick!

    Thanks for the help!
