Opinions On John T. Reed

I stumbled upon his website and read most of his reviews and articles. It was really amazing stuff. He seems like he knows REI like the back of his hand, wondering if any of you had read his books and what you think of them and are they worth buying?? Thanks!

Reed is a well respected writer on Real Estate.
Many professional real estate people subscribe to his newsletter.

I have never personally read John T Reed But I believe I will after reading his bashing of Russ Whitney on his website, this guy spills everything about Russ... Ilove it!

I ordered his two books on how to buy real estate for 20% below market. The information looks rock solid, with dates, addresses, and descriptions of what works, what doesn't, what formerly worked, and what might work if tried in the right circumstances. There are also success stories and people who went bankrupt or even to jail.

Some of his approaches seem overly cautious, and at times he puts things I call usual negotiating tactics into the "unethical" category--even when done by people he generally admires.

I'd say it's for anyone who wants to do deals conservatively and avoid sharp practices. That should be all of us.

Reed has been the topic of discussion many times here. Search through the forums and you'll find many more opinions.

I take everything he says with a grain of salt. He's trying to scrutinize and criticize just about everyone.

He crucifies Robert Kiosaki, for example. Kiosoki has done a lot for me in terms of my perspective, attitude, and thought process. Frankly, I don't care what his real estate portfolio looks like. Most of the philosophy that Kiosaki teaches is readily available in other books (eg, Richest Man in Babylon, Think and Grow Rich, The Master Key To Riches, etc). He just packages it a way that is entertaining to read and simple to understand. It was RDPD that propelled me agressivly into RE. Do I care if Rich Dad is ficticional? Nope.

I read Reed's opinions periodically. I agree that "gurus" are a dime a dozen and some (perhaps many) provide information that is questionable or regurgitated.

I think there are 2 sides to every story, and John generally only presents one. Just a thought.

Well put. He trashes most of the "gurus"

I get his newsletter. Full of worthwhile tips.

I happen to agree with him on many issues esp regarding subehect to deals and "no money down deals"

    Some excellent posts above.

Ive been to Mr. Reeds website. I believe he makes money buy tearing apart some really good investment teachers some I dont like I agree. But he is way to conservative and if you dont watch it you will miss out on a lot of money by going his route.
