Notice Of Non Renewal Of Lease

My tenants lease comes due in May and I dont want to renew the lease. I am looking for a standard form to send to them to let them know about this... Does anyone have any reccomendations as to where I can find a copy of this form, or is it as easy as sending a letter saying that "your lease expires and I am not renewing it"? thanks for your input

did you try a google search?

The 1st time I use a new form or do a new process, I like to run it by my attorney to see if there are any legal issues.

Most lilkely this falls withing the laws of your state involving leases. Here in CA a lease automatically reverts to month-to-month if there is no notification. For many states, a 30 day notification is required of either party. This can be in the form of a letter. Most likely the means of terminating the lease is spelled out in the lease document itself.

I just sent out my first non-renewel of lease. I had to give 30 days notice, but it is nice to give as much notice as possible. My suggestion is not to "get into it". When asked why, I just kept saying that I was choosing not to renew the lease.

    My letter said

Dear Tenanat, as you know our lease signed 1/2/94 for property 123 main street ends on march 31, 2005. This is notice that we will not be renewing your lese and you are expected to vacate the property by midnight on march 31, 2005.

So that we may end on a positive note, please clean (go into detail) so that your full security deposit of $500 will be returned.

You can get landlord pamphlets at the courthouse on your state laws, and then the landlord/tenant state statutes possibly on your state site.

And that book is great, good choice.
