Not Sure Where To Start

My husband and I would like to start a real estate investment business. We are looking at fixer uppers to resale or rent. This dream of ours has be unable to happen because of two reasons: Capital to invest and Poor credit rating. We have never filed BK or anything, or been delinquent on our mortgage, just derogatory on discover and medical bills in collection. I know I need to find out our credit score. My husband is a very talented carpenter and I've alway hoped I could do this as a part-time job. Any suggestions on how to get started?
Thanks for you help.

A little plastic surgery on your credit wouldn't hurt. Read through posts you see here, as well as discussion forums at:

Medical Bills can be particularly gratifying to remove from credit reports. Check Whychat's HIPAA information. Google for it, the webTV URL for his site is a bear to remember.

One thing to remember also, is that most sub-prime and portfolio lenders completely disregard any medical derog's on your report. Actually, it is probably more rare to find one of these lenders that actually DOES count med derog's.

    Just a thought

In my opinion, credit is the key to becoming successful in investing.

The medical derog’s will eventually need to be taken care of; If not just for your peace of mind. However, Justin is right; most lenders will not look at medical bills.

Deciphering your credit report is very important. You may have accounts on it that ought not to be there. It’s always good to check.

    Good luck
