Need Advice! Is This Legal?

Recently I have hired a contractor to do some remodeling work on my apartment in a cooperative in ny. There was an incident with the contractor and the super and it went to the police station. I spoken to the management company, they told me that the contractors were not suppose to be there in the first place without management approval. In turn, they blamed he whole incident on me (an absentee owner). NOw the management company is threatening me by saying that they are going to pass the lawyer fees to me in regards about the incident that had happend between the contractor and the super. My question is that is that legal? Thanks.

They can "pass" anything they want onto you.

But you don't have to pay it unless they sue you for it.

As usual, best advice is to pass this on to your lawyer, and for you NOT to communicate further with the enemy.

Your CC&Rs should spell out your rights & obligations with regard to the HOA, so read them over yourself, and take them to your lawyer so he/she will also be up to speed on same.
