Motivated Chicago Landlords-Porch Violators
I try to stay abreast of current events, especially when they relate to real estate. Well, the Chicago Tribune has just done alot of creative investors a favor. They've published a list of apartment buildings who have porch code violations. Can you say motivated landlord? Maybe, but it is worth looking into.
I'm not at the point where I can post websites, but the name of their site is pretty obvious. The list of addresses is on the main page. I looked up a couple of their taxes on the Cook County treasurer's office, and a couple were past due! I wish I could take advantage of something like this, but I would like to start small. Just trying to think creatively.
Dear Eric,
I do actually attend several Chicago area meetings. I attend the Chicago Creative Investors Association (CCIA), which meets at the College of DuPage on the 3rd Sunday of the month. This month they have Scott Rister as a guest speaker, you know the guy who helps people find motivated sellers (June 27).
I'm also attending a meeting of the Windy City Round table (WCRT). They have an organization website. They meet on the 1st Thursday of the month at the Carleton Hotel in Oak Park. Their next meeting is June 3rd.
I also plan on attending the Chicago REIA meeting this month, because I missed last month's meeting.

Readywip,
Thanks for your unselfish post. I'm sure there are investors here who will look into this.

Readywip,
What do you mean by starting small?
There are definitely ways to get started if you are new or lack the resources (credit, cash, experience).
Either tell me more here as to why you think you have to pass this time around or send me an email (use the email option in my profile).
Once you find motivated sellers putting a deal together becomes a lot easier. You might have a good list of possible sellers so lets find a way to make a deal happen for you.

Like the person above said, there are lots of ways the lack of credit/cash. Have you gone to any of the chicago real estate meetings?
Readywip,
You are full of useful information. Thanks for sharing. I missed the porch article. And the various meetings are worth checking out. It sounds like you will be quite successful once you take the plunge.
