Used FEMA Mobile Homes: What Am I Missing?
Does anyone have any insight into why 2 year old used, in poor shape, FEMA mobile homes are currently bringing $10-12,000 at auction when they cost the government $14,800 new??

I would first think the gov got a huge quanity discount and they were worth a lot more.
But we all know the goverment overpays for everything.
Even with workers, takes 2 gov workers to do the same work one would in the private sector.
$1.7 billion divided by 114,341 mobile homes , sourced from the web. Comes out to about $14,800 a unit.
IMO they got a terrible price. My question is why are they bringing $10,000 to $12,000 now? That with mold, structural damage, major missing items, etc. Is there a rebate coupon for these things (above the bid) or what?
Were these built for FEMA, or did they buy out a lot of stock inventory from manufacturers?
I think they bought some stock that would typically go at a significantly higher price than $14,800.
The manufacturers dumped excess inventory and FEMA got units quickly.
But it has been a while, and not something I have followed.

I just purchased 2 of these for some lots I have. I felt that they were a decent value because I called around for pricing on a new or newer single wide and found that I would have to pay over $20k from a dealer. Also these are zone 3 wind constructed which is a "better constructed mobile home" if there is a such thing. I went down to inspect these before bidding.
not that it says build to FEMA spec, not HUD. Are these even legal trailer for peoples use?
