LLC, IRS And EIN

Hello,

I am the sole member of an SMLLC, which will have 1 to 3 employees (not memebers) by the end of the year. The IRS issued me 2 EINs, one in my name , and one in the company name. According to IRS phone service, this is correct for a SMLLC, the EIN in my name is for the Schedule C of my tax return, and the EIN in the company name is for employee taxes. I do not remember reading any where I should have 2 EINs, can anyone confirm this?

Thanks

Read and ask about the irs tax code #861.

Were the numbers issued at the same time or is one old? Did you only file one SS-4? IRS publ 1635 states that SMLLC don't need a EIN separate from its owners.

What does 861 have to do with this????

    blueford,

Both numbers were issued on the same day. I only filled one SS-4, and I did it online through my state's DOR web site.

I have also found on page 4 in the instructions to the SS-4, wording that may explain this, but do not understand it completely.

    Thanks

    Gary
