real estate laws

I have a friend of mine is going through a nasty divorce. before their divorce they were both living in home owned by the mother in law, rent free. The husband has since moved out, and left the mother with her 3 young children alone. The in-law who owns the property has given the mother a 2 week notice...please note the notice was given on may 20th. they live in AZ and I opened up the law books and Arizona law states that either party must give a 30 day written notice to the other. Is there something she should do? If this ends up in court, what will the court think about this? She has another property secured, she just cant' move in til the 1st of july. I told her to call a real estate attorney, but she dosen't want to. Any help in this would be very appreciated. thanks.

Depending on what state she is in will determine the length of time she has to vacate.

When I was a police officer, I responded to numerous domestic calls just like this,
where one party is living rent free and the
    owner now wants them out.

Here in NC, it took a court order / eviction
hearing for that to happen. This was usually a 3 month ordeal at best.

I suspect the judge would give the tenant a "fair" amount of time to find
    necessary living arrangements.

Im sure there is quite a bit of animosity
on the inlaws part.....divorces are seldom
    amicable.
