I Paid More Than The Asking Price, And I Feel Good About It

A couple days ago I posted a problem where I thought the seller's agent was maybe lying to me about a competing offer on a property. The asking price was fair, but I thought he might be trying to get one over on me. Still, I made an offer at $100 over the asking price and it was accepted. It was sort of bittersweet to have the offer accepted. Well now I feel a whole lot better.

Now that the contract is signed, they decided to tell me why the property was on the market. They had refused to do so earlier. Anyway, turns out it's owned by a soldier who’s over in Iraq. His sister was looking after it but couldn't handle it. He just re-upped for another tour and decided to sell the place. Knowing where he is and what he's doing, I don't feel so bad anymore about paying his asking price. grin grin

You have done your good deed for your country. Hats off to you!

But in general they say if they don't gag on your first offer you have offered too much.

    Heres wishing you positive cashflow!

I wish you best luck on that property. God bless America and people like you who have the respect and compassion for those who fight for us.

    Alexlev,

Great story. It's nice to hear something positive occasionally when it come to paying over the asking price. When I bought my home in San Francisco, we offered 5K over the asking price, because it was a bidding war then.
