Hurricane Ivan Electrical Damage

My Pensacola rental house suffered extensive rain damage from Ivan. Everything is drenched and growing mold. Looks like a complete gut job and rebuild.

The general contractor says that a complete electrical system rebuild is up to the insurance adjuster. I say it should be ripped out and re-wired period. Anyone have any experience with this type of water damage?

First off sorry to hear you took a hit like that. As far as the electrical damage goes, the wiring is PROBABLY ok.

However, If there are wires exposed at all I would try to get them to rewire those areas. Reason being you don't know what may have penetrated (could be a small hole that could give you problems later)) the wires during the storm or clean up and now there gonna cover them back up again.

As far as the water goes wiring would be fine, but the obvious (light fixtures, switches, receps) should be replaced. I really do not think your insurance company could dispute that.

Hope not to late for you on the post.
    Good luck
