How To Find VIN #

I'm looking at a potential buy in a MH ..but I can't find the VIN # anywhere. Is there a general location it is always found or am I out of luck?

Thanks!

Assuming the home isn't more than 26 years old, there should be an 8 x 11 sticker called the HUD data plate. This should contain everything about the home serial #, wind zones, thermal zones, dat and place of manufacture, manufacturer, etc... This could be located inside either a cabinet or a closet anuywhere in the house. If it's in a cabinet it is usually in the kitchen. Sometimes they get removed or painted over, if that's the case it should be stamped in the frame on the tongue end of the home, you will have to look hard. if it is a double wide, it will have 2 serial numbers!
If you still haven't found it, on the oppisite end from the tongue, there should be a small business card size metal plate attatched to the exterior of the home. This little plate will also have a number stamped in it. That will be the HUD number. If you contact whoever regulates the MH industry in your state and they can track it down from there, or the Dept. of HUD can do the same.
