Hired Help
Is there a legal form that I can use for hired manual help for my rehab for release of liability? I understand that I can get any subcontacter to give me their license/insurance info; but what about people I hire to help out for any grunt work
It is almost impossible to get rid of liability. If they are not subcontractors then they work for you and you are liable i.e. you pay them by the hour, you direct their work, etc.
The only way around that and it may not work 100% is to hire your temp help through a temp agency that assumes liability for them. Int he past I have taken people I wanted to hire to work on my job over to the agency, signed them up at min wage and then paid a bonus when the job was over....
I have used undocumented workers and that could be a problem, I always insure my houses so that if there is an injury then it is covered under that..

In my town there is an agency called "Labor Ready" its basically unemployed people who you can hire per hour for odd jobs, im almost positive that they provide the insurance. Havent tried them yet so i dont know if there hard workers or not but i tend to doubt it.
I carry WC, GL, BR insurance on my company / projects but I also request that my subs carry insurance as well................unfortunately we recently got hit with a $3000.00 plus bill after our audit.
Several of my subs it turned out were under insured...............talk about being hot!!!!
Needless to say we are not only insuring that certificates are up to date, which we have always done, but now we check their limitations.
Food for thought.

When you take out Workman’s comp you basically give them an estimate of receipts, labor and independent contractor labor and then they audit you at the end of the year to verify that the estimated numbers were correct...
Unlicensed Contractors are a very large issue, especially in California... Insurance coverage pretty much assumes that they are employees.
It can get very expensive..
Insurance is so frustrating I pay for 3 different business Liability policies, 2 workman’s comp policies, property insurance, coarse of construction insurance, vehicle insurance and health care and have yet to file a claim...
If I could figure out how to start an insurance company I would...they’re some of the riches around
We get audited every year like clock work. Getting W/C is getting tougher and more expensive. I suspect much has to do with the amount of claims being filed. The sad thing is that its not the small companies that are having claims filed..........however they are paying for it.
