HELP! Am I getting sued??? Need help fast!

I don' t always use shady workers for my rehabs, but sometimes this happens. So, here it is... I am getting a roof 12 square slapped on by a recommended father son crew and it should only take a day. My properties are in tough area's, so getting them done quick is very important so the neighborhood does not come in them. I find out tonight from my partner that these two losers have done a horrid job on the tear off three days ago and still don't have it roofed, but that is not the entire problem that has me boiling. My 9:00 phone call from my partner says "stop what you are doing and get in your truck we have to get the 12 square out of the front yard of our property that we paid $500 bucks for before the HOOD moves it for us never to be seen again. Man, I was HOT, so I call these losers and ask why I am leaving dinner with my wife and daughter to go to the hood and muscle 12 square across my back and why the heck is it sitting in the front yard instead of on the roof yada yada yada. The loser on the phone starts crawling up into me about how his poor dad (who I found out can pound a case of beer on the job) fell off the ladder and broke his ankle and asked me with major attitude if I have home owners insurance. And between us guys I have home owners on everyone of my properties but this one, because I just closed on it a week ago and didn't send it in yet. I am really sweating this, because I don't know what to do and I can't tell if this guy is just throwing around his weight to scare me or if he is for real. I am going back to the job sight 6:00am this morning where I am supposed have the shingles ready for them to finish the job (noway would I leave them in this area another minute). I plan to be very cooperative, get the job done and not mention one thing about his dad or that conversation, pay him and prey to god I never see this guy again in my life. How do I sleep knowing I could get a letter in the mail soon. What is the proactive way to handle this type of threat? Does this guy have what it takes to beat me with a pen in court, because he is not a real company and he's claiming his father is injured on my property... is it really that easy for him to hang me in the town square??? If this goes south on me I at least need to learn from it....Gurus, mentors...what was my biggest mistake that you can see from this story?

Form a Land Trust and Deed Your Interest over into it! (Should Around $500)
Then if you should hear from a sleaze-balll Ambulance Chasing Lawyer of your Contractor he'd have to POUND SALT instead of putting a Lien against Your property!
BUt you said you have several OTHER PROPERTIES...If they are NAKED TITLED (with you name as an OWNER) then YOU ARE STILL AT RISK!!!

Make sure you create a paper trail, find out what happened, when , where, what time.
It sounds like there are some other issues relating to where roofing material was placed, lack of ability whatever.
Smells like a rat, don't sweat it, it's part of business.
I've been there and worse, but at the end all the worrying was for naught.
These kind of things make you sharper and ultimately the education will make you more money.
Get involved and don't avoid them, most of these guys are pretty lazy and dumb. Don't let these idiots ruin your day
